SSO Season Dates – Musician Concert & Rehearsal Schedule

(Preliminary as of 31July2019 – subject to minor changes)

 

Saturday October 19 - 2pm – Ontario Festival of the Arts – “Pictures at an Exhibition”

With KUSC Host Rich Capparela. Arts Festival Grounds. (217 S Lemon Ontario CA 91762)

Rehearsals: 9:30 am – 12 noon on Saturdays: Sept 7, 14, 21, 28; Oct 5,12,19*.

(*Oct. 19 is a required morning dress rehearsal/run-thru at the Senior Center with Rich Capparela)

Our concert time at the Festival is 2pm. We probably need to be onstage no later than 1:30 pm to check the mics.  We are trying to secure the Senior center for all these rehearsals. Watch email and musician site for updates.

(These rehearsals will also include music for the Nov. 3 concert.)

Sunday November 3, 2019 - 4pm – Season Opener – “Pictures at an Exhibition” & more

Bethel Congregational Church, UCC 536 N Euclid Ave Ontario CA 91762

Rehearsals: 9:30 am – 12 noon on Saturday October 26 and November 2* (*Required  Dress Rehearsal)

These rehearsals are at Bethel Congregational Church. (we need to rehearse in the church configuration).

Repertoire:

  • Sibelius - Finlandia

  • Grieg - Peer Gynt Suite No. 1

  • Mussorgsky/Ravel - Pictures at an Exhibition

 

Sunday December 8, 2019 – 4pm – Messiah – with SSO Chorus and Soloists (smaller Baroque Orchestra)

Regular rehearsals: 9:30 am – 12 noon Saturdays. At Bethel Congregational Church,

November 16, 23, 30. (30th may include chorus).

*DRESS REHEARSAL (REQUIRED) WITH CHORUS TUESDAY DECEMBER 3rd. 7:30 – 9:30 pm.

Possible orchestra/soloist dress rehearsal Sat Dec 7th (May not be needed if soloists can be present for Dec 3rdrehearsal). Watch email and musician site for updates.

Repertoire: Messiah (Watkins Shaw edition - Novello)

  • Christmas Portion (part 1, complete)

  • Hallelujah Chorus

  • Worthy is the Lamb/Amen Chorus

  • *Performance may also include a couple of arias from parts 2/3

  • Beethoven - Overture to the Creatures of Prometheus

  • Tchaikovsky - Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture

Rehearsals: 9:30 am – 12 noon Saturdays. Most at Bethel Congregational Church.

April 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30* (*Required Dress Rehearsal at Ontario High School)

SUMMER 2020 - (still in planning stages)

Saturday June 20 – 7:30 pm – Summer Pops at Town Square

(sponsored by the City of Ontario, awaiting final date confirmation)

 (*Required Dress Rehearsal day/concert eve. May try for an early aft dress rehearsal at library
